Twilight Terrace

Location: [Los Gatos, CA]

This backyard was reimagined for a client who loves to host, with a bold vision for a modern space that could flow effortlessly from indoors to out. Designed for high-impact entertaining and everyday ease, it features a custom kitchen, fire lounge, and layered lighting that makes it shine day or night.

Indoor-Outdoor Flow, Reimagined

This yard had good bones but felt stuck in the early 2000s. Tight patio doors, cramped flow, and not much personality. We kicked things off with wide accordion-style sliders to connect the indoors to the deck outside. It instantly opened up the space and set the tone for a full transformation.

Now the whole yard flows like one big, breezy extension of the house. A sleek motorized pergola shades the custom kitchen and bar (nearly 30 feet of it), complete with premium Hestan appliances. Across from that, a porcelain-tiled entertainment wall with a weatherproof TV faces a cozy fire lounge. Perfect for game nights, wine nights, or just chill nights.

Layers of Light, Texture and Style

Instead of cutting down the existing tree, we gave it a moment. We framed it with a curved raised planter that adds charm and maturity. Succulents and low-maintenance greenery fill the beds, keeping things fresh without the fuss.

Lighting is where the magic really happens. Built-in LED strips glow under deck steps and walls, creating a soft floating effect. Spotlights highlight the tree and key architectural features. The pergola and kitchen lighting keep the vibe alive after dark. The best part? Flush-mounted paver lights arranged like a constellation. Because who doesn’t want a little stargazing underfoot?

Built to Live In, Built to Party

The space got its first true test at a backyard launch party. Live music on the deck, bartenders mixing drinks at the outdoor bar, and guests floating between zones like the yard was made for it. It’s the kind of setup that looks amazing, functions even better, and keeps people talking long after the night ends.
